Smalltalk ─ Mai 2015 GUR
Smalltalk mit Célia Esteves von GUR aus Porto, Portugal.
Please introduce yourself…
Hi there I’m Célia, I’m the founder of GUR. I was born in Viana do Castelo in 1981 a really nice place to grow up, then I moved to Porto with 16, and did a degree in Communication Design and a Masters in Design and Printing Techniques at the Faculty of Fine Arts where I worked as a printer for 5 years. Besides GUR I’m currently putting together a screen printing studio LaikaPrint.
Where do you get your inspiration?
On the day to day live, the people, the city, nature, animals, friends and family. And I have to name Dama Aflita Gallery where they make an amazing work keeping us up to good illustration, some of my collaborations in GUR came from their super nice selection.
Do you work alone or do you collaborate with others? Any collaborations planned?
I have being working with a lot of artists in collaboration for GUR, and new and happy friendships have grow, I feel very lucky to be surrounded with so many talented people. A lot of new ones are coming together, just keep checking them!
How important is music while working on new stuff?
Music helps me concentrate so it is very important during the creative process.
What music is playing right now?
I’m currently listening to a new/old vinyl that my mother gave me “That’s Soul, For people, who love Soul”.
Name a current „anti-trend“.
Crab Sticks :-)
Great labels we should know about?
Great blogs we should visit?
Sebastião & Rodrigues – This GUR is dedicated to the modernist designer Sebastião Rodrigues. Rodrigues work had a great impact in the portuguese design since the 40’s, having a great balance between innovation and multiplicity. Since he was a big reference to us, we’ve decided to pay him some tribute and invite my good friend and great designer Marcia Novais to join me.
